About the Author

Dr. K. V. Hariharan is a wellknown shipping expert based in Mumbai. A Ph. D. from Mumbai University (1964), he worked in many leading shipping organisations, the last being the Scindia Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. until 1988. Since then he is practising as a Consultant: Shipping management and Training. He is an ardent researcher and has written 8 books, contributed more than 60 research papers/articles on shipping and allied fields. Among his recent books are: 'A Text Book on Container and Multimodal Transport Management (2002). Logistics Management in maritime Trade (2007); and laws of Carriage of Goods by Sea and Multimodal Transport in India (2007). He was National Co-ordinator for UNCTAD training project on shipping (1980-88). He was a member of the Board of the Container Corporation of India Ltd. (1996-98). He is a popular visiting faculty to numerous management schools in Mumbai and outside, including the World Trade Institute of MVIRDC World Trade Centre, Mumbai. He serves as an adviser to Tolani Maritime Institute, Mumbai. He was awarded 'Best Faculty - 1997' by World Trade Institute (WTC) and Best Faculty 2000 at national level by the Indian Institute of Materials Management. in 2006, he was honored by the MAREX Bulletin Appreciation Award for works of writing on shipping.
