This is a book that one would expect from so able a Law teacher as Nilima Chandiramani. The reader will find in it the simple and lucid manner of narration and clarity of thought which are the characteristics of her lectures. After going through the pages of the book the reader will realise that the study of Law of Contract is no more a formidable task as is generally thought to be. This edition incorporates the developments that have taken place in the field of contract law since the publication of the first edition in 1996. The 1996 Amendment relating to section 28 of the Contract Act has been discussed theradbare. More than 400 new judicial decision have been added. Every chapter has been thoroughly revised and developed so as to give a complete and perfect knowledge of the subject.
About the Author
Dr. Nilima Chandiramani, recipient of several gold/silver medals and awards, embarked on her teaching career in 1971. After teaching law at all the three law colleges in south Mumbai she joined the Department of Law, University of Mumbai in 1990 where she was the Dean of Faculty of Law. Currently she is the Principal of Nari Gursahani Law College and the acting Director of DM Harish School of Law. She received the Best Teacher award from the University of Mumbai in 2002 and the Best Presenter plaque from the University of Piracicaba, Brazil in 2003. On 11 March 2016 she was conferred the Women's Achiever Award 2016 followed by the Indian Merchants Chamber honouring her with an Award on 11 April 2016 for her remarkable contribution in the field of Mediation. She received two Life-time Achievement Awards, one on 11 March 2018 and the other on 11 March 2019.
Having authored more than half a dozen law books, one of them [ A Guide to Customs Act] being funded and sponsored by the UGC, and having written university course materials for NLSIU and University of Mumbai, Dr. Chandiramani has published more than forty research papers in national and international journals. She was commissioned by the National Commission for Women to write two notable reports, one on Review of Gender related Laws and the other on Feminist Jurisprudence. She was a member of the Task Force, Ministry of Environment and Forests to evaluate introduction of market-based instruments to abate industrial pollution.
Dr. Chandiramani has engaged government officials of Atomic Energy, National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics, SSI, and SMEs as well as members of Social Service League, Women's Welfare Organizations, SNDT University, etc. She was nominated by the National Human Rights Commission as a representative for women's jail in Byculla, Mumbai. Not resting her oars with teaching, researching, writing and social work, Dr. Chandiramani enjoys training Indian industry in areas of commercial and shipping laws.
The High Court of Judicature at Bombay appointed her to revamp the law examination process and nominated her as a member of a committee to conduct inquiries in cases of sexual harassment at workplace.
