Marvels of Side Dishes is my ninth book in the series on culinary items. Based on the encouragement received from my earlier books, I have written this book. Preparation of a side dish is many a times a formidable task. Choosing the right vegetables; deciding whether it should be a gravy or not; matching it with the main dish, viz. roti, bread, rice etc. are some of the challenges in choosing a right side dish.
This book endeavours to provide a wide gamut of side dishes for various occasions and times. Whether it is for a lunch or dinner, there are numerous types of side dishes that can be tried upon. Also, efforts have been made to offer side dishes comprising of different varieties out of commonly liked vegetables like aloo (potato), baingan (brinjal), paneer (cheese), bhindi (ladies finger) etc. The side dishes mentioned in the book are preparations that are commonly made in all parts of India. There are more items specific to vegetables / plants common to or liked to in a particular region. For instance, there are various dishes out of
plantain (banana), which is commonly grown and consumed in eastern and southern India. While many dishes are based on mushroom, paneer, potato, ladies finger etc. which is liked by people in northern and western parts of the country.
It is hoped that after trying the recipes in this book, one would get a fair idea and interest to experiment with dishes comprising of vegetable combinations or typical flavours which is liked by them or their families. Also, it is felt that this book should be a must try for foodies who have been advised to switch over to vegetarian dishes owing to health factors. The right combination of main and side dish is always desirable to entice your near and dear ones to your preparations.
Wishing you happy and healthy times
